Before Now by Limoblaze
I don’t know how my heart would have handled it if I only had 16 tracks in Blind from Limoblaze to binge repeatedly.
So thank God for Before Now.
Album Title: Before Now
Artist: Limoblaze
Released: 2018 (Yay!)
- The Interview: You know, I appreciate Limoblaze putting this as an introductory track for the album. It made me see every song after it in a new light – a new light of change. The interviewer, Klevar Ocholi, asked smart questions that made the track all the more valuable. I think it maybe would have been cool if this track was called “Before Now.”
- Beautiful: I am beautiful. Not because I am beautiful. But because my Creator, Who made me in His image, is beautiful. Sometimes, we let the “comment section,” self-doubt and self-pity tell us that we are not. With this track, though, the Lord through Limoblaze is telling me that “[I can] be me; [I can] be me. [It doesn’t matter if I] get likes for the real me.” Oh, and by the way, that Twix chocolate bar analogy is very true in this track! One is already dabbing to the intro before the lyrics hit you.
- Revolution: It’s a revolution. I’m telling y’all. It’s that Twix chocolate bar all over again! Darn. Whenever I hear this song, the visuals that come to my head are those Eedris Abdulkareem/Tony Tetuila-esque black-and-white music videos that practically scream “Revolution!” Not unlike how Limoblaze continually spits “It’s a revolution” on this track. Yes, the Gospel is a revolution, and no compromising is allowed after now.
- Tomorrow: The collaborations on this album are dope. Case in point: Demi God. I’ll be honest, though: I have no idea what he is saying after “Mama mi kilo fun mi…”
- Pray 4 Me: Oh, how wise. Seriously, how wise! Just take a second now (right now!) to pray for your church pastor and your favorite Christian artists. “Facebook Likes are overrated [and] don’t do much for [them].” Hear Limoblaze’s plea in this track – instead of criticizing that leader/pastor/evangelist/singer, please pray for them.
- Dalu: I can’t type too much about this track. Too b–u–sy–y d–anc—ing! 😁
- All I Have: Shime Ahua. Shime Ahua. Shime Ahua. How many times did I call you? You this girl will not kill me. Chei! This track overwhelms me, and sends me directly into worship mode. I just can’t.
God, thank You for Shime Ahua and Limoblaze.
This song reminds me of Background by Lecrae. I know that song from head to toe.
Oh, Jesus – “I want to f-ii–nn-dd You/I want to fe-e-e-eel You.” I love You. - Snake Line: If you have ever attended an African American service or seen one on television, you will understand how this track is able to elicit “Yes, Pastor,” and “Preach!” from your un-African-American lips. Especially when the meaning of Snake Line is explained at the end of the track. Limoblaze 👏👏👏 A da fun yin.
- Africa Got Bars: Oh yes, we do. Oh, heck-to-the-yes, we do.
- Save Me: You know what I love most about this track? That we hear the Lord re-affirm here that we are important to Him. That He loves us. That before we call to Him, He is already there. And yes, He is able to save us. Thank You Jesus.
- Love You: “Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God/Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found…” (Reckless Love, Cory Ashbury). This delicious concoction of words is what my wooed spirit feels as Love You plays. You love me, Jesus. Quite overwhelmingly. And it’s obvious in Love You.
- Blessings: When this song comes on, I regret not having that super-long Thank-You-Jesus rosary that helps you say “thank You” to Jesus 1000 times.
- Gentle Love: If Love You reminds me of the overwhelming love of the Lord, Gentle Love reminds of how preciously loved I am. Also, I just want to pause on Okey Sokay (sokay…sokay…till fade).
- Nwachukwu: You know how sometimes in an album, there is not that much diversity in sound. Maybe because the artist is focused on presenting a certain type of sound to the listeners. Not the case here. Ladies and gentlemen watch out, Before Now does not fall into the lines set by genre. Instead, it brushes them away like pesky flies. And (you guessed it!) I love it.
- Nowe Soke (Outro): Whoo! Too many thoughts are coming into my head regarding this track, so I am just going to throw them out there without coherence: Man after God’s heart. Jesus. True blaze. Light of the world. City on a hill. True worship. This can only be God. My man, Kingzkid!!!
- Number 1 (Bonus Track): Wedding playlist, where are you?
- No More Kpekele (Bonus Track): If there are any spelling erors or grammatical errors in this item, it is this track’s fault. I can’t sit still. The rhymes, though. Don’t bootleg Limoblaze’s album, please! Waa jegba o!
I had not heard Limoblaze Before Now: But now I have. And my life is not the same.
